The global economy is enthralled by electronics and semiconductors.

Nowhere is that more evident than in the automotive market where carmakers and their suppliers are racing to add electronics to their products. This was evident at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) where announcements and product demos have been dominated by offerings related to automotives.

Vehicle safety, driver monitoring, navigation, power and other issues are at the core of applications being demonstrated at CES, according to Alfred Vollmer, contributing editor to the Ojo-Yoshida Report who is in Las Vegas attending the show. In a discussion with our editor, Vollmer said many of the offerings have moved from futuristic concepts to less than two years away from volume production.

He highlighted Zeekr’s claim to having the fastest battery charging mechanism for vehicles, potentially able to increase driving range by 300 km after only 5 minutes of recharging. Foxconn’s potential entry into automotive manufacturing also drew much interest at the show. The contract manufacturer had for long demonstrated its interest in branching outside of regular consumer electronics, PC and server production for OEMs to the automotive industry.

The company could help automakers improve their time-to-market and facilitate the entrance of new OEMs into the sector, editors of the Ojo-Yoshida Report observed. See the video for more details.
